The first lantern to make use of die castings was the Strand Pattern 23 designed by Fred Bentham in 1953, this small mirror spot enjoyed a 30-year production run and found its way into many British schools, halls and theaters. Die casting allows for one single, light-weight body that is more economical to produce and use. With the advent of the Source Four, many lighting instruments are being made from die cast metal. Older instruments were made from rolled and machined steel or aluminum. The housing may be designed with specific elements that help reduce heat and increase the efficiency of a lamp. It comprises all of the exterior of the fixture except for the lens or opening. The lamp housing is a metal or plastic container that serves as a body for the entire instrument and prevents light from spilling in unwanted directions. Stage lighting instruments all have the following components: Extension cables are available for flash heads placed at longer distances from the power pack.Components See the picture at the top of the page for the physical location of most components. The beefed up 13.2' head cable is twist and crack resistant. And the head has 500W of modeling light output to match all that power, making it bright enough to shoot video with if needed. Even the glass dome has been beefed up to better handle its power. The ProHead Plus has a heavy duty, sealed head connector capable of safely pumping very large amounts of juice to the upgraded "Perfect Arc" flash tube that offers improved triggering at low power settings and greater overall flash stability. Power has always been at the heart of the ProHead's design and the ProHead Plus doesn't disappoint with its fan cooled 4,800W/s capacity and heavy duty cabling that allows for intense shooting sessions hour after hour.
